Governor of the Altai region Alexander Karlin has sent a letter to Bank of Russia chairwoman Elvira Nabiullina, asking to initiate a procedure to rehabilitate Zernobank, the regional governor's press service reported.
In his letter to the Russian central banker he wrote that the bank could be rescued with the assistance of regional lender Sibsotsbank, with the Altai region's government being one of its founders. "This measure will make it possible not to destabilize the regional financial market and restore confidence of clients in Zernobank," the letter runs.
As banking portal Banki.ru reported, Altai-based Zernobank stopped serving its clients last week. The local media wired that the bank has been in a dispute with one of its clients, as a result of which Rub 179 bln was seized on the lending institution's accounts.
